Why Engineering plastics used for Automotive Industry?
The driving systems pursuing fuel efficiency, lightweight, emission reduction and design flexibility, when come to material’s selection, compared with metal, engineering plastic shows its advantages and unlimited potential. The PPS is so special because they contribute significantly to the qualify of life on automotive industry with theirs versatile properties: more efficient and safer, more comfortable and more beautiful; unlimited on design ideas and forming process, more flexible.
Why PVD coatings on Engineering Plastic?
PVD coating technology has been used for decades on automotive industry: car mirrors, car head and tail lighting reflectors, wheels, interior & exterior trims, EMI shield functional coatings etc.
1 year ago, we received a request from our local customer who is providing the electroplating services for automotive plastic components. Due to the chemical plating process is hazard to environment and operators, so they submitted a question: “Is that possible to coat Ni directly on engineering plastics to replace the electroless process?”
The technical properties: the deposited Ni film must have strong adhesion with PPS substrate and also good adhesion for post-treatment -- electroplating process.
We spent 6 months to made experiments and successfully developed the proper coating process and the result satisfy customer’s expect. Another 6 months we designed & produced 1 set industrial production Ni coating machine for our customer, it’s already put into production in May. 2020.
